Flying!

28 March, 2006 (23:32) | Curacao | 1 comment

Working on a small island is fun. Everything is closeby, but “small” also means going somewhere involves flying, as I did Wednesday with a co-worker. We currently have a small office/business on Sint Maarten, which could use some assistance. So, we planned a trip for 2 days (there on wednesday, back on thursday), and left [...]

Home Improvement

Today, we went shopping! Initially for extra towels, shower curtain and a phone. But, instead, we came home with a nice (and cheap! only 225 NAFL ;) audio system, and said phone ofcourse. After unpacking everything, I hooked up Soosh’ MP3player to the thing. Yay for music!
As for the phone, working for A Phone Company [...]

New links

As the new NPE400 at Mirant was succesfully installed and working, we decided to move on to the next step. So, I configured another router, to be put on Seru Pretu and provide us with a DS3 to both Vredenberg and Mirant, and eventually making some other links obsolete. The trip itself was quite interesting. [...]

Operation Braintransplant

Since we had some issues with one of our Cisco 7206 “core” routers, we ordered a replacement NPE-400 for it. We also ordered a RAM upgrade kit to 512M, which was seperately delivered. So, we opened the bags, take the old ram out, put the new chip in, and boot it up. “128M’. Turned out [...]

Papers

Tomorrow night, we’ll be replacing some hardware at one of our main sites. Customers are informed, and so is the helpdesk, we have the parts we need, so only one thing remained: the papers. This particular site is at Refinery Isla Mirant’s highest tower. Most of my coworkers have a permanent badge to go over [...]

Nothing much..

A bit busy at the office, trying to solve some speed issues I encountered when getting my new link, fiddling with BGP, and stuff. And a picture of the antenna we placed on the roof :)

And IP!

Ok, so today, my MP20 Wireless connection got installed. Many thanks to one of my colleagues (Gino), who did the physical installation. Including climbing on the roof connecting the antenna, pulling the wire through the ceiling, drilling holes, aligning the antenna, and more. The result is a nice and stable (yay) link from my house [...]

Line of Sight

It’s been a bit busy at the office lately, so unfortunately the guys who usually install/test/inspect new wireless link sites (like the one to my home) were pretty much busy doing other things. But! Luck was with me today, so one of them went to my house with me. After he assured me it wouldn’t [...]

Food!

Today, we decided to use our newly bought barbecue. Afterall, we had ~ 1 kg of tenderloin marinated in the fridge already ;) So, after Soosh got the damn thing to burn/heat up, we threw on the meat, and waited.. Tasted great! Too bad it was a little too much for the both of [...]

Armageddon day

2 March, 2006 (21:48) | Curacao | 3 comments

This morning, one of my colleagues asked me to go with him to our switchroom. There appeared to be a problem with one of the (redundant) wireless links. So, we fiddled some, tested some, and tried some things. Learned a lot today at least ;) In the end, it all worked out again, but it [...]
