Armageddon day

This morning, one of my colleagues asked me to go with him to our switchroom. There appeared to be a problem with one of the (redundant) wireless links. So, we fiddled some, tested some, and tried some things. Learned a lot today at least ;) In the end, it all worked out again, but it took some hours.. But, that wasn’t it. Because of the problems we had with the link, we decided to turn off some voice equipment and restart it aswel. Ofcourse, after 5 years of loyal service and about 3 weeks from being replaced, the damn machine didn’t boot. Fortunately, it let us know what was wrong. “Long beep, long beep, short beep, short beep”. After some googling, I found that it was Compaq Proliant-speak for “One of my fans is dead!”. As the machine itself was used as a shelf for other equipment (a.r.g.h.) we had no option to take it out and take a look/replace stuff. So we went to buy some WD40 and spray that into the broken fan. With the help of some plastic my colleague got to the point where the machine would ‘ignore’ the semi-broken fan and just boot up. My bet: powerfailure tomorrow. But we’ll see :)

Oh, and me and Soosh bought some new things: porchtable+chairs, new plates/cups/.. set, and some lamp-that-won’t-cooperate. After that, we had some really nice and cheap dinner at De Tropen, probably something we’ll go back to another time!

Hey Brammie,

At the Tropen you will find a Murphy’s Quiz as well, ask Soosh!
She had some experience with it while you were gone already.

I totally dig Denny’s at the Holidays Inn (I guess…). They are opened 24hrs a day and it’s great eating a big burger at 5 in the morning after a heavy night out. Temperature inside always is around 19C, and yes, thats cold when it’s 30 outside.

Yeah! But that was in cold, rainy and snowey Hilversum. And the bar’s name definately wasn’t ‘De Tropen’. Anyway, the Murphy’s Quiz in the Guardian in Hilversum is quite nice. Maybe i’m gonna try my luck at De Tropen sometime soon!!
