Network Improvement

We’re still working on our network setup. Setting up new sites/locations, pulling links from one point to another, and trying to keep stuff redundant in the meantime. At the moment we’ve come pretty far I can say, as we pulled out the “final” router we needed today. This one is going to be in the new switchroom at the office, holding links to both Mirant, Vredenberg and Miami (Which I might visit in the near future, to cleanup some stuff there and put the links the way we want to: on seperate routers ;). So far, so good. Let’s hope we can get the DS3’s up and running tomorrow, so we can actually start moving equipment !

On a sidenote, I saw a mail coming by about someone wanting to use “UnifiedRoot” as our root-dns-servers. I still cannot imagine why sane people would fall for those scam-like initiatives. Maybe it’s the same people who still fall for 419s, who knows? I’m very interested to see how this will end. The guy gave some arguments, which we happily voided by testing (”$ISP uses it”, for example.). I think he should go work for the “Consumentenbond”, as they don’t get ‘The Internet’ there either.

Thank god I’m a few thousand miles away ;)

Why do you consider Unifiedroot a scam? If you’re going to say something like that, back it up!!!!

Easy. In short, they offer you something (for U$ 1000 once and U$ 250 a year, or so I’ve read) that is not theirs to offer. Sure, you can set up your own DNS and try to persuade lots of ISPs to use your system, even offer them money to do so. But still they’ll be selling stuff that’s worthless, as near-100% of the world won’t be able to see/use the TLDs. Add to that they do not speak of possible collisions with the Real System ™, what will happen in such a case? You’d loose everything you’ve registered? That’d mean you’ve paid (possibly for years) for something to be viewable for the whole world, and when the time has come that’s actually going to happen, you’ll loose it all (As I doubt they will just “copy” URs database, which will probably consist of domainsellers/whores anyway)

Anyway, it all sounds like “OHHH! Let’s make money fast!” to me. I can probably think of more reasons, but I think I’ll leave it to this. They suck. :)

Just thought of something else worth mentioning. They work with people that lie, on purpose, to get people to use “their system”, using invalid, impossible, financial or just not true arguments. That alone should say enough, right? :) (I have this in writing. It’s true. Sorry I broke your bubble.)
