A miracle has happened. When we came home this afternoon, I saw we got a brand new watermeter. Seems my phonecalls to Aqualectra did help, and they finally realized it’s -their- loss if they can’t bill me.

Now, let’s wait for the new bill, I’ll be surprised if that goes right the first time as well. ;)
