Goodies!
I figured I could use some storage at home, to dump my files on (as The Laptop tends to get filled up:). After browsing and talking around a bit, I found some nice Linksys stuff and a Western Digital disk to go with it. The idea is quite simple: Hook up the external USB drive to the NSLU2, hook the NSLU2 to your network, and share the crap via wireless. But, as we’re on a little island in the Caribbean here, such toys aren’t as common/available as I’m used to.
Fortunately, we have a nice deal with a freight forwarder. So, I asked a colleague about a nice online US store, and let them ship it to ‘our’ FF address in Miami. A few days later, the stuff arrived, and was ready to pickup. Which is what I did, ofcourse ;) I was surprised about how bloody easy the thing was set up. It really is “connect it, have fun”. Ofcourse, you’d have an ugly name, no security of whatsoever and one big share.
The thing appeared to be quite configurable and works pretty much perfect. Good enough for me, at least.. Now to find some time to look at NSLU2 Linux as it’s “just another Linux” running on the thing ;)
