Fiber fun

As always, when you expect a nice quiet weekend, something will break. This time, one of our main links to the US decided to break down. Arcos went down Saturday morning. After making some troubletickets, we found out that there was a major outage on the Arcos ring itself. A big part of their network (Basically anything and everything between Nicaragua and Santo Domingo) was dead. The fun part? They didn’t know where, and because of the bad weather, the helicopters / ships couldn’t go out to check.. In short, the bigger part of the Caribbean was less reachable, or just plain offline. We couldn’t reach our St. Martin office by any phone (or ipwise), for example :)

On top of that, the -other- link we have started flapping. Even more phonecalls and tickets later, we had everyone working on that one as well.

Things seem to have stabilized now, after Arcos fixed their cuts. Now we only have one flapping link, which is still under investigation. I’m sure we’ll get it sorted in time ;)

Oh, and while all this happened, the phonecompany decided to cut off my cellphone, making calls somewhat harder..

That was one fun weekend, but I truely hope those links keep stable. Meh. :)
